The wind whispered softly through the dense trees of the Black paw forest making the foliage bend and sway, and the small spots of light danced across the Earth. Katana lay hidden among the shadows, moving silently as she stalked across the hardened dirt. All the while, her fiery eyes stared unwaveringly ahead, seemingly glued to the small brown form of a rabbit that was shuffling noisily within the twisting roots of an ancient oak tree. The tiny creature moved noisily as it searched for food, obviously unaware of the threat that lingered so near, rocking her hips softly, and waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Without warning, the slow dreamlike illusion was shattered, as a blue and red blur shot out of the greenery, and fell upon the brown creature. The small rabbit had barely enough time to understand what was happening before razor sharp teeth sank into its neck and hung loosely from the wolf's mouth. The spattered blood was hardly noticeable against her already crimson maw.
Her lips slowly twisted into a malicious grin as she dropped her catch onto a moss coated patch of Earth and settled down to eat. As she ate, her mind wandered, and brought up some unwelcome thoughts and memories. The first thought that crossed her mind was of her mate, Syth. Oh, how she hated him. 'but,' she thought, her grin turning into a wide smile, 'He couldn't possibly live forever.' Snapping her unfortunate meals bones, she imagined it was Syth's neck she was holding, and his warm blood that flooded her mouth. Her happiness didn't linger for long, and her troublesome mind soon moved on to the next subject, her pups. More specifically, damon and Engle. Infernal whelps! They were nearly as horrible as their father.
Suddenly, she snapped out of her thoughts and realized all that remained of her rabbit was a small pile of bones, most of which were broken into small ebony shards. With a sigh, she leaned down and licked her paws clean, savoring the last drops of blood. Frowning, she hauled herself the her feet and looked around boredly. She had no wish to head back to the dens, as she would most likely run into her mate, or one of her pups. Finally, she simply leaned back onto her haunches, enjoying the scents that filled her nostrils, and waiting for the next thing to happen.
